Laura Scorey, a Tennessee artist, calls her works on canvas a “perfect imperfect paintings.”
Bonny Shuptrine- owner of Shuptrine’s Gallery, says this is the perfect description as it depicts her style and grace. “I’ve enjoyed working with Laura’s paintings- especially the ones with an ethereal and mystical quality to them. They are very feminine, showing deep emotions.” Laura is inspired by her three young children as they keep her “very present”. She says “seeing the world through their eyes and their innocence is truly magical. It has sparked the inner child in me that dreams big dreams and feels big feelings.” Scorey paints in oil on canvas or wood, and often uses the cold wax process. The cold wax process is a mixture of beeswax, resin, oils and mineral spirits. Painting with cold wax and oil is a process of addition and subtraction, laying down layers of oil and wax impressing textures, scratching, scraping and laying more layers of colors and wax until the artist feels like it’s complete.
