Karen Keil Brown, is originally from New Jersey, and raised in Asheville, NC. Karen has been a professional artist for over 25 years with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the UNC – Asheville. Karen has experience in commercial art and as an art teacher in the school system for 10 years and continues to teach privately. She has participated in numerous art shows with her paintings in private and corporate collections throughout the country.
She is volunteer with the Arts for Life Organization working with special needs children and their families and donates her art work to various charities. When Karen is not painting she enjoys being outdoors; traveling with her husband, spending time with their 3 artistic daughters, family, friends and taking photographs of nature for inspiration.
I also enjoy working on commissioned paintings because getting to know my buyers vision makes it special for me to create. I share with the viewer my passion for the ever changing landscape, inspired by the beautiful misty mountains that surround us. I attempt to bring to the canvas a peaceful, light and airy feeling, giving it a soft visual effect on the horizon. –Karen Keil Brown
Creating art for me is a form of meditation. When a landscape painting is going well, It is not so much about the end image for me; it is about being with the painting, inside the painting space. I often get lost in my work, losing a sense of time and specific place. While painting nature: the large open skies, the warm encroaching mountains or the impending storm, I sense calmness, and the action becomes a prayer of gratitude for life. I can only hope that the people who see my work share in some of the feelings I get from painting and find their place of peace. –Karen Keil Brown
